DESIGN BRIEF: Design a sail for flat water / small wave use, that maintains the feel of the S-1 concept, whilst providing enough drive for the pure freeride sailor. With origins in the S-1 wave series, the S-2 Freemove was developed as a response to our need for a bigger freemove sail for freestyle or SuperX, as well as general blasting use. We wanted to keep the same lightweight and feel of the S-1, and went to work creating an ultra lightweight freeride sail. The compact planform was carried over, as was the higher skin tension and draft position of the S-1. For flat water we required more power, so deeper profiles were added. The leech twist characteristics of the S-1 were maintained; the upper head areas promote greater twist, while the lower leech has more tension to give increased drive and response. Like the S-1, we wanted a range of sails that would all be able to fit on the same mast. The result is a highly manoeuvrable and versatile sail that suits a huge variety of applications; freestyle, freeride blasting, freemove and the new SuperX discipline.
