DESIGN BRIEF: Build the fastest possible sails for modern racing. Gear the larger sizes to Formula, smaller sizes to Slalom. The SEVERNE Sails Race (SSR) is centred around a single goal; getting around the racecourse as fast as possible. Through collaboration with aeronautical engineer Jim Drake, a cutting edge concept was born and after a long and very intensive design process the SSR has grown stage by stage into a highly efficient and devastating racing tool. The larger sails are higher aspect than conventional race sails; this delivers a foil that is much more efficient with reduced form drag that can be directly attributed to larger heads. To maintain area and foil efficiency the width of the sail has been increased in the lower 3rd of the foil, allowing more control over the centre of effort while delivering an enhanced fin / rider balance. Built light, with extreme efficiency, it is devastating upwind with both wind range and efficiency capable of powering it downwind with equal effectiveness. Complementing the larger SSR formula sails are the SSR slalom sizes in the range, these foils are totally tuned for maximum speed and control. Skin tension and draft placement is maximised to deliver a foil that can be gybed with ease, accelerate fast and reach top speed in seconds. A three-cam configuration helps to keep the overall weight down for light wind performance and handling. It uses extremely high skin tensions along the entire sail, which gives a very clean foil and a locked progressive twist to make sure the entire surface area is utilised to it's utmost. The draft is extremely solid for maximum efficiency at all loadings, as well as transferring a high degree of feedback to the rider. This is essential for racing, allowing you to pick up not only on changes in wind, but also helping you to perfectly trim your board. Even the smallest stance changes can be immediately transferred to the board trim, instead of being lost in an elastic and spongy foil. The SSR is a pedigree foil with only one place on the podium in mind.
